Elephant Manicures
Did you know elephant’s get manicure’s? They also eat a full watermelon in a single bite or two. These are the vitally important things I have learned so far this morning, and all I had to do was tune into the Sprout network and watch Caillou. So watching shows generated towards Alex’s age group is indirectly making me smarter. I’m not sure if that’s suppose to make me feel good for learning, or bad for realizing that I’m learning from a show geared toward 2 year olds. I guess at my age you take any new learning you can get!

I’m also learning from the books we read to Alex just before bed. Lately it’s more Clifford books, since Alex is a Clifford fan (with a dog like Diesel, is anyone really suprised?), and while they aren’t teaching me tangible things, they are teaching me what Alex responds to and what he doesn’t. He enjoys the reading time, but he’s not crazy about long books that drag on. Understandably, as his gets sidetracked easily. After all, why pay attention to the book when it’s been going on FOREVER, and it’s ever so much more fun to turn around and start poking Daddy in the eye to see what he’ll do. So we keep it short and simple, and hope Daddy has quick reflexes just in case!
I also found a very neat site for introducing kids of all ages to reading. It’s called All About Reading, and you can also buy kids books online from the site. I remember how much I loved reading growing up, and it got to the point where I’d carry a book with me almost everywhere, just in case I had a few spare minutes. I also remember that my love of reading helped me sail through reading, spelling, and english classes throughout school. I recognized words that had most kids scratching their heads in confusion, and it’s this wonderful “head start” in learning that I want to instill in Alex.

I’m always on the lookout for great books for kids, so I regularly check out the reviews that Kelly offers over at the Tiny Treasury. So if you’re looking for some must have kids books, swing on over for a visit and tell her Jennifer and Alex sent you.
Now, let’s see if I can find Alex’s ideal book … one with poke-able eyes in it!

Little Princess used to prefer short books as well. her attention span has grown as she has though. I still learn from her shows. The Magic School Bus teaches me all kinds of things.

Have you ever been to http://www.brightervision.com ? My toddler loves it! Each month you get a book, stickers, a CD, and a fun coloring/play book to do together. We’re total bookworms here, so anything where we get new books in the mail is a huge hit.

Julia loves reading, too. Of all her toys and things to do, it’s what she seems to enjoy most.
